About
Eceertrey (pronounced E-ceer-trey) is an American artist working at the intersection of photography, sculpture, augmented reality, virtual reality, robotics, and emerging technology.
For more than fifteen years, his work has explored a simple question:
Using mountains, deserts, forests, and cities as his canvas, Eceertrey creates sculptures that exist somewhere between the digital and physical worlds. Some are placed permanently in landscapes through augmented reality. Others become physical objects through 3D printing, robotics, or installation. Rather than treating technology as the subject, he uses it as a material—no different than stone, steel, or clay.
His work is driven by a fascination with shape, scale, memory, and the tension between nature and the synthetic. Massive white forms emerge from alpine landscapes. Impossible structures appear where they should not exist. Familiar environments become stages for imagined worlds, asking viewers to question what is real, what is virtual, and whether that distinction still matters.
Entirely self-taught across photography, 3D design, game engines, spatial computing, and digital fabrication, Eceertrey has spent years building a multidisciplinary practice that moves freely between contemporary art and emerging technology. His work has been exhibited internationally and featured in cities including New York, Paris, Miami, and Los Angeles, while collaborations have included Nike, Adobe, Meta, Wired, and other leaders in art and technology.
Today his practice continues to evolve alongside advances in artificial intelligence, robotics, and mixed reality. Rather than viewing these technologies as replacements for artistic expression, he sees them as entirely new creative mediums—tools capable of expanding human imagination into spaces that previously could not exist.
His work is less about predicting the future than quietly building pieces of it.
The Work
Three trails, cut over fifteen years, all leading through the same territory: imagination made physical. Read like a trail log, newest ascent first.
2023 — present
Difficulty:
Living Systems
Sculptural figures generated with AI under a written design language, engineered for 3D printing. A persistent augmented-reality garden that keeps growing when no one is watching. Robotics entering the studio as collaborator, not subject.
2017 — 2022
Difficulty:
Imagination Exports
VR-sculpted forms placed deliberately into the landscapes of the mountain West — massive white shapes that could possibly exist, sited with a graffiti writer’s eye for the spot. Exhibited in New York, Paris, and Miami; collaborations with Nike, Adobe, Meta, and Wired. The on-chain record survives at SuperRare.
2009 — 2016
Difficulty:
Light
Long-exposure light painting performed entirely in front of the lens — tunnels, ruins, and night landscapes drawn with LEDs and glow sticks in a single exposure. The trailhead — every later path starts here. The original archive of 262 light paintings remains online.
Field Station
The highest camp on the map, and the busiest: where the practice meets artificial intelligence, robotics, and mixed reality.
The station operates on one principle — these technologies are not replacements for artistic expression but entirely new creative mediums, no different than stone, steel, or clay. AI generates under a strict written design language; the machine proposes, taste disposes. Robotic fabrication turns digital forms into objects you can hold. Mixed reality places what shouldn’t exist into places that do.
Current experiments include AI-assisted sculptural figures designed to survive as pure silhouette, physical fabrication through 3D printing and robotics, and living augmented-reality environments that persist and grow over time.
One experiment is open to visitors right now: E.C. TERRA, the living garden — a persistent augmented-reality world of grown, eroded, and fractured forms. Bring a phone; the garden needs your camera to exist.
Findings are posted from the field as they happen — follow along on Instagram.
